McLaren celebrates 2021 Italian GP 1-2 triumph at headquarters

Daniel Ricciardo becomes the latest driver in a long line to take an F1 victory for McLaren. That line stretches back to 1968; Daniel’s in some pretty impressive company…

Both Daniel and Lando visited McLaren headquarters in Surrey along with Team Principal Andrea and CEO Zak Brown to celebrate their achievement with the team at the factory.

It’s McLaren’s 183rd Formula 1 win, a first race win since the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix and a first one-two finish since the 2010 Canadian Grand Prix. It’s team’s 11th victory at Monza, while 17th in Italy and the 79th win with a Mercedes engine in the back.

It’s also an eighth F1 victory for Daniel, having had plenty of practice between 2014-2018 with Red Bull. He’s the 20th driver to win a race for McLaren but, perhaps more pertinently, the 14th to do so having joined the team with a winner’s trophy already in the bank. Alain Prost, Gerhard Berger, David Coulthard and Fernando Alonso, all of whom won before being victorious at McLaren.

Daniel Ricciardo talks about his Monza victory from McLaren Research center,

“Crazy, what an awesome day! We really set the tone from the start of the weekend. I think anyone that’s seen the demeanour this weekend, they’re not surprised. I’m really stoked that it turned into a victory. A big thanks to the team. Not only winning, but a one-two’s incredible. A lot of hard work went into this and we really earned it out there. I’m really, really happy.”
