Four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel was confirmed by Aston Martin couple of weeks ago for their 2022 driver lineup alongside Lance Stroll, son of Aston Martin Executive Chairman, Lawerence Stroll.
When Vettel moved from Ferrari to Aston Martin at the end of 2020 season, everyone thought it’s gonna be long-term deal but surprisingly team took long time to confirm him for 2022 seat.
Aston Martin recruited so many technical and management people as part of their expansion plans, but only worry thing for Sebastian Vettel and his fans are, how long it will take team to become a contender again for the race wins? Otherwise Vettel will not have chance to add onto his championship tally.
Seb talked about his 2021 tenure with team, “But I think that challenge of working with the team, I think the team is great. I like the guys. So it’s been a great season, maybe not in terms of results but in terms of working. Morale is high so there’s a lot of things that excite me”.
And when asked about 2022 season and what made him to sign contract extension, he said – “The driving. I think, the competitiveness, obviously, I love driving. I love winning. So, next year, a lot of things are changing. I don’t think anybody’s guaranteed to win”.
Seb on whether agreeing a new deal with the team was in doubt: “Not really. I think in the end the excitement for next year, the new cars, new regs, and I think where the team is going, everything looks very promising… It’s great to be part of that.”
“Time will tell. It does [excite me], otherwise I wouldn’t be here. I think the four or five years horizon is fair, in terms of looking back to other teams, how long it took other teams to climb to the top”.
“I think the vision and the commitment the team has, the vision is impressive. And the commitment is very high. So it might be less but, you never know, it might be longer. But I feel that where the team is going sets a very promising direction”.
“And I feel it will happen. Time will tell, I don’t know. I’m not getting younger. It’s not my first year in Formula 1 so we’ll see what happens”.
