British GP: Hamilton Takes pole from Bottas as Mercedes pair dominates the Field

Hamilton Takes pole from Bottas with a record lap during British GP Qualifying on Saturday here in Silver-stone. Everyone expected Mercedes to dominate in their Home GP, but they are actually in a class of their own.

Hamilton’s Pole lap time, 1:24.303 is a new Silverstone track record and he is 0.313 ahead of his teammate in P2. The Next car close to Lewis’s lap time is Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, his P3 lap time of 1:25.325 is 1.022 seconds off the pace.It’s worrying sign for all the teams, with this pace, Mercedes will run away with pole in remaining all races in the current Calendar.

Today’s Pole marks Hamilton’s 91st career in Formula 1 and 7th pole at Silverstone. Mercedes set another record today with 8th consecutive pole at Silverstone, it’s an all time F1 record for any track.

Max Verstappen leads the pack behind Mercedes

Behind Mercedes, it’s all very close among Red Bull,Ferrari,Racing Point and Mclaren in the final qualifying session. Max Verstappen put’s his Red Bull in P3 with final flying lap ahead of Ferrari Man Charles Leclerc , who impressed with P4 in a draggy SF1000. Both were separated by 0.102 seconds, considering SF1000’s weakness it’s unexpected good out come for Leclerc and Ferrari.

Once again impressive Lando Norris, puts his Mclaren in P5 ahead of Lance Stroll in P6. Many tipped Racing Point to be best of rest for this weekend British GP, but Lance Stroll struggled throughout Qualifying and his new teammate Hulkenberg failed to reach Q3 in his return to Formula 1 after Sergio Perez sidelined due to covid-19 positive .

The German qualified in P13, he was struggling with headrest knobs inside the cockpit throughout FP3 and Qualifying. Even though Racing Point has a strong package, their drivers inability to extract more out of the car shows need for them to sign Sebastian Vettel for coming season.

Mclaren Man Carols Sainz qualifies in P7 ahead of Renault pair Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon in P8 & P9 respectively.

Four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel rounds-off the top ten,his Q3 lap was deleted by stewards for running wide in his final run.The Ferrari man visibly struggling to keep his SF1000 under control during FP3 and Whole Qualifying session.

Geroge Russell Makes into Q2 in his Home GP

Williams youngster George Russell puts his car into another Q2 with a impressive lap in the final minutes of Q1.But he was under investigation by stewards for not slowing down under yellow flags during his final flying lap , when his teammate Latifi took a big spin.

After promising Friday, Pierre Gasly qualifies in P11 for Alpha Tauri ahead of Alex Albon in P12. The Red Bull man’s bad weekend continues after Friday Crash and he stayed in garage for much of FP3 session, which compromised his qualifying preparations.

Daniil Kvyat qualifies in P14 ahead of George Russell in P15.

Q3: Ferrari Customer teams struggle continues

Ferrari customer cars struggle continues in 2020 season. Both Haas and Alfa-Romeo cars eliminated in Q1 along with Williams Latifi, who qualified in P20.K-Mag qualifies in P16 ahead of Alfa-Romeo duo Antonio and Kimi Raikkonen in P17 and P18. Romain Grosjean comes home in P19 in another Haas.
