Manchester United defeats PSG 2-1 in a High octane game at Le Parc des Princes on UEFA Champions League Group H opening day. Marcus Rashford’s 87th minute winner brings back 2018-19 season memories, when Late Rashford goal eliminated PSG from Champions League knock out stages.
Untited played really well for whole 90 minutes, they have created more chances and they were able to contain PSG’s attacking trio. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær deserves credits for his team selection & tactics on the pitch. Youngsters Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Axel Tuanzebe bossed Kylian Mbappe & Neymar, the centre-back producing a remarkable performance on his first appearance in 10 months.
The visitors had excelled in a first half which saw stand-in Captain Bruno Fernandes put them ahead with a twice-taken penalty after French Man Martial was brought down by Diallo in the 25th minute. United headed to half-time break with 1-0 lead.
But the French champions started the second half on brighter note, they were far stronger and threatening before deservedly drew level when United striker Anthony Martial headed into his own net.
David de Gea was at his best in United’s goal, The Spaniard made couple of strong saves to deny PSG’s superstar trio Kylian Mbappe ,Neymar and Di Maria. Solskjaer bested Thomas Tuchel with the pivotal introduction of Paul Pogba in place of Telles that sparked a momentum shift and the Frenchman teed up Rashford to arrow past Keylor Navas. Rashford had spurned two presentable openings on the breakaway yet converted the half-chance to leave the narky Neymar’s head bowed once more.
With tonight’s win, United sits in second place in Group H standings with 3 points. RB Leipzig leads the table on goal difference. United will host table toper RB Leipzig in second game of Group H on 29th October.
