Vettel : “I don’t think anywhere in the pit lane there is such a big delta”

Four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel will start his final grand prix with Ferrari team from 13th on the grid after qualifying in P13. Vettel struggled for pace during Saturday’s final qualifying session compared to his teammate, who qualified in P9. The German failed to make it to Q3 for the first time since 2015 in Abu Dhabi.

The huge gap in Qualifying times between two drivers has been talk of the season so far, there is no way that Sebastian Vettel will deliberately underperform and definitely he never forget how to drive an F1 car. So where is the big difference in Lap times coming from ? especially on one Lap pace.

The same question is mysterious to Vettel him self, after qualifying when asked about his performance, Vettel replied, “I mean, I was quite happy to be honest. Obviously it’s a mystery why there’s such a delta between the cars, I don’t think anywhere in the pit lane there is such a big delta butI was happy with my quali”.

He continued saying, “I think I had decent laps. It’s not like I expected much more. It was quite okay. The result is of course pretty bad, but I’m satisfied with myself. I reached pretty early the limit of the car… When I tried to go faster, it didn’t work”.

And while questioned bout his Chances in tomorrow’s race, Vettel predicted it will be a tough race for him and team as well, but since it is final race of the season the German is relived to finish the season. “It seems like it will be a painful & difficult race tomorrow, but it will be the last one, so I can’t wait to get in the car”, said Vettel.

Since tomorrow’s race will final for Sebastian after spending 6 years with the team, Vettel thinks it will be an emotional one, “It will be very special for the people who are in the garage, the mechanics and the engineers. I feel very close to them, As far as the result is concerned, it won’t be a climax”.

When asked about overall season, Vettel replied saying, “I’m looking forward to seeing the checkered flag tomorrow. The season was so bad, that I’m really happy that it is over now.”

“This season does not reflect really well the time I had with this team. But you always live in the present, so looking back is difficult. I certainly expect it will be somehow emotional. But I am equally happy and relieved that it is over”.
