Dinesh Karthik steps down as a Kolkata Knight Riders Captain on Friday, England’s Limited over captain Eoin Morgan will take over as a captain for reminder of the season. Knight Riders CEO Venky Mysore confirmed the news and released an official statement on the KKR official website.
The news broke hours before Kolkata’s big game against defending Champions Mumbai Indians. KKR currently sits in 4th place with 8 points in 7 matches so far. Dinesh has been underperforming with bat so far in this season, fans criticized him for not contributing with bat for team. Hopefully he will find much needed rhythm and form with the bat.
KKR’s Official Statement :
Dinesh Karthik has informed the KKR management that with a view to focus on his batting and contributing more to the team’s cause, he wishes to handover the team’s captaincy to Eoin Morgan.

While we were surprised by his decision, we are respectful of his wishes. We are also fortunate that Eoin Morgan, the 2019 World Cup-winning captain, who has been the vice captain, is willing to lead the side going forward. DK and Eoin have worked brilliantly together during this tournament and although Eoin takes over as captain, this is effectively a role swap and we expect that this transition will work in a seamless manner”
