Scuderia AlphaTauri retains Pierre Gasly for the 2021 Formula 1 season. Team has announced the news ahead of their home grand prix, Imola. The 24-year-old Frenchman first joined the team at the 2017 Malaysian Grand Prix, before moving to Red Bull Racing for the 2019 season.
After a unsuccessful stint with RedBull, the French man returned to Scuderia AlphaTauri halfway through 2019, Pierre has proven his capabilities time and time again, qualifying and finishing consistently in the top 10. He won 2020 Italian GP at Monza this year, it’s second win for AlphaTauri in Formula 1.
Gasly outperformed his team mate, Russian, Daniil Kvyat both in Qualifying and Race trim. He is currently sitting in P9 in 2020 Drivers Championship standings with 63 points, while Kvyat scores just 14 points and sits in P14. Gasly can potentially finish season as high as P4 in drivers Championship, just 21 points separates P4 & P10 in the championship standings with 5 races to go.
Both Team Principal Franz Tost & Pierre Gasly express their Happiness after extending the contract for one more season. Tost said, “Pierre has proven to be highly competitive also thanks to his great race craft, extracting the car’s potential at every race and giving valuable feedback to his engineers”.
