Formula One announced on Sunday that Miami will be hosting a new race starting from the 2022 season. Red Bull driving pair Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez are looking forward to racing in the “Magic City” famous for laidback seaside vibes and Latin-American influences.
“I think Miami is a great location for Formula One, it’s a very fun city and there’s lots of energy in that place. The Latino community is pretty big there so I’m definitely looking forward going there soon,” said Checo.
Miami is a sport-mad city, with American Football and Basketball both receiving a huge following and the plan for the circuit is to be built around the Hard Rock Stadium – the home of the Miami Dolphins – using its parking facilities as well as public roads.
“It will be a very interesting circuit and I’m looking forward to seeing what they come up with,” explained Checo. “I enjoy a city circuit as it’s a good challenge, so I really hope they make a good track which makes for some exciting racing.”
Max is also looking forward to the new challenge. “It’s always interesting to go to a new place where we’ve never driven before and Miami is a great city. I’m sure if they build a good track, we can have a lot of fun out there and hopefully we’ll bring a lot of excitement so the fans can of course enjoy the race.”
The Bulls are also pleased that the US is getting a second race on the calendar, as it will help to grow the sport in America. “I can definitely understand why F1 are having a second race in the US and I’m always happy to be in America. It’s a country that always gives you that kind of feeling that anything is possible, so I’m just excited to go there,” explained Max.
