Chelsea humiliated Manchester United with 3-1 victory at Wembley in FA Cup semi-final.Frank Lampard men will play in the FA Cup final against Arsenal on Saturday,August 1st.
Tonight’s loss will be first one for United in Bruno Fernandes era and their 19 game unbeaten run in all competitions comes to an end.
United manager, Ole’s decision to start back 3 with Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Harry Maguire played in-hands of chelsea. Blues high pressing game caused lot of trouble for Red Devils, most of the first-half played in United’s half.
It’s All Chelsea Show
Chelsea started game well , center forward Olivier Giroud missed couple of easy opportunities to put his side in the early lead. But his holding play helped Chelsea to mount attack on poor United defense. Finally breakthrough came for Lampard men, when Giroud got the outside of his left foot to Azpilicueta’s low cross before the ball squirmed past De Gea in the 56th minute of the first half.
The Blues started the second half as well as they ended the first one, scoring within 60 seconds of the restart as Mount’s latched on to poor clearance by united’ williams and his right footed low drive bobbled under De Gea for 2-0 lead.
Maguire, who scored their winner in the quarter-finals for United, went close to open scoring on 65 minutes. when his free header from Fernandes’s corner bounced wide of goal.
The United’s night was summed up on 74 minutes when Alonso’s low cross was deflected in by Maguire under pressure from Antonio Rudiger for Chelsea’s Third.
Though Bruno Fernandes scored from spot to pull one goal back for United, after substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi had tripped Martial in the box. But it’s little too late for Red Devils as Chelsea defense stood strong against United’s late attack.
De Gea struggles continues
Manchester United wicket-keeper David De Gea replaced regular Cup keeper Romero in the starting line-up and this is the first game for Spaniard in the FA Cup this year.
United’s no 1 had a awful game today, he was at fault for Chelsea first two goals, as he failed to stop easy ones.Though he redeemed him self with two flying saves in later stages of the game
De Gea faced lot of criticism for his poor form in front of goal this year and there were calls to replace him with United loanee Dean Henderson, who is having stellar season with Sheffield United.
Today’s poor show by Spaniard will definitely put pressure on United manager to consider De Gea’s long term future at Old Trafford.
Eric Bailly Leaves pitch with Head injury
Kurt Zouma and Eric Bailly had a nasty head collision during final minutes of First-half when Chelsea man tried to connect a cross from Mount with his head in front of goal.Leaving both players needing treatment.
Not long afterwards, Bailly’s game was over after another clash of heads – this time with team-mate Harry Maguire. This time both players wounded with gash, the treatment worryingly took long time for Bailly, who cut his upper head before he was replaced by Anthony Martial.
Referee Mike Dean only allowed the game to resume once Bailly had been safely stretchered off, meaning the first half would run beyond the previously-awarded five minutes of stoppage time
verdict :
- Chelsea and Frank Lampard deserves ton of credit for outplaying United with High pressing game.
- Ole’s game plan and tactics needs to be criticized as he failed to make necessary adjustments in the game even after seeing Chelsea domination in the first half.
- De Gea needs to go, his poor form costing United in big way.
- United players looked bit tired due to busy schedule and Chelsea’s extra 48 hours of game rest proved as main difference.
- Paul Progba and United mid-field losing the ball way easily and their passing and link-up game is pathetic.
