Manchester United held to 2-2 draw by Southampton at Old Trafford to stay in 5th position in the table.
After seeing Chelsea and Leicester dropping points over the weekend, Manchester United manager Ole, didn’t waste a chance to seal the opportunity to reach champions league spot. He named same starting XI for fifth consecutive match, who created premier league history during mid-week.
Manchester United were sloppy for first 16 minutes of the game,especially their star Paul Progba, Southampton did a good job by pressing higher and not allowed Uniteds offense to get into rhythm.
Southampton’s efforts are rewarded with a goal, when Stuart Armstrong scored for visitors with right footed shot from the right side of the six yard box to the centre of the goal. Assisted by Nathan Redmond.
But Saints effort to stop United’s front line went in vain, when Marcus Rashford scores equalizer for home side with left footed shot from the left side of the box to the bottom right corner. Assisted by Anthony Martial.
With in two minutes of equalizer, United took lead over saints with a wonderful goal by Martial with a right footed shot from the centre of the box to the top left corner. Assisted by Bruno Fernandes.
But things took interesting turn when United’s left back Brandon Williams got injured and went out of the game in the 90th minute.By using all 5 subs before that ,The Red devils were forced to play with 10 men for 5 mins of added time.
Southampton took full advantage of 10 men united and scored a equalizer in the 6th minute of added time, when Michael Obafemi right footed shot from very close range following a corner sneaked into net.
United missed the golden opportunity to climb third place in the standings by dropping 2 points in their penultimate home game of the season.
