Another year Champions league and Another disappointment for Pep Guardiola men. Manchester City dominated the stats sheet except No of goals.Lyon played one of best defensive games in recent times, they are very disciplined at the back-line.
City keeper and Premier League Gold Glove winner, Ederson had a horrible game in-front of the goal. While his counterpart Lopes had a solid game.
Lyon break the dead lock through Maxwel Cornet, who threads his curling shot into the near post from about 20 yards in 24th minute. It was his fourth goal in three games against City. The French team entered the Half-time break with a 1-0 lead.
Manchester City were pressing for an equalizer from the start of second-half, but resilient Lyon defense hold tight till Kevin de Bruyne finds the net in the 69th minute with A lovely first-time sidefoot finish assisted by Raheem Sterling with a perfectly placed pull-back ball from the left.
When things are looking bright for City their leaky defense gifted second goal to Lyon in the 79th minute.
Moussa Dembele who replaced Captain Depay in the 75th minute, finds himself free after he is found with a through-ball and then fires his low shot under the legs of Ederson. VAR was called to check possible offside & foul, but after a brief check, goal stands.
Raheem Sterling missed a golden chance to equalize in the 86th minute, when the English Man missed a wide open net from three yards in-front of the goal , instead he out skies the ball over the bar after great work from Gabriel Jesus in the area.
To add to City’s misery, Dembele scored his second goal of the night in the 87th minute, when City lose the ball in midfield. Houssem Aouar is fed a pass and shoots a relatively tame effort at goal which Ederson spills – Moussa Dembele tucks in the rebound.
It’s been tough 2020 year for Pep Guardiola, distant second in Premier League and now Quarter-final exit in the Champions League. Hopefully he will return to City for Next season.
