German Champions, Bayren Munich beat French side Lyon 3-0, to setup final clash with PSG on Sunday August 23rd.Serge Gnabry scored twice in the first-half before Robert Lewandowski added one in the final minutes of the game to keep his scoring run alive.
How it Happened?
Bayern came into Wednesday’s semi-final as favorites to win both the game and tournament, but Lyon started the game well, the French side missed golden opportunity to take early lead when Duch man Memphis Depay fired wide of the goal on the break early on after rounding Neuer.
The German side were controlling possession, but Lyon routinely catching them out on the break in the opening quarter of an hour, and only the width of a post stopped them falling behind when Ekambi cut inside Alphonso Davies before rattling the woodwork from close-range.
With luck on their side,Bayren took the control of the game with a first goal of the match when Joshua Kimmich’s floated ball to Gnabry was brought inside by the winger, before he fired an unstoppable shot past Lopes in the 18th minute.
Gnabry and Lewandowski both wasted many chances before the pair combined for the second goal. Ivan Perisic’s cross was scuffed goalwards by Lewandowski, and from Lopes’ save Gnabry stabbed home to double his tally for the night and give Bayern one foot in the final.
By two goals down at the half,Lyon regrouped at the break, and showed they were not done when Houssem Aouar picked out Ekambi on the right of the box with a perfect pass, but the forward was denied by an onrushing Neuer as another fine chance passed the French side by.
With 10 minutes to go, super-substitute Philippe Coutinho looked to have put the game beyond doubt for German side when he touched in Thomas Muller’s threaded pass, only to be denied by an offside flag.
But one thing is missing in the game for Bayren was, goal from Lewandowski, with just 2 minutes left in the game the Polish captain rose easily above Marcal to nod in Kimmich’s free-kick to score his 15th goal of the competition and add insurance goal for Bayren. As they secured another comprehensive victory – and their 10th in a row in this season’s Champions League – to reach the final.
