Mercedes Driver and Pole sitter Valtteri Bottas wins wet 2021 Turkish Grand Prix ahead of Red Bull duo, Max Verstappen in P2 and Sergio Perez in P3.
The Flying Fin felt good after registering first win of 2021 season and first win since 2020 Russian GP. “It’s been a while. It feels good. From my side, that’s one of the best races I’ve had. It’s not easy to choose the strategy here in these conditions. It feels like a well-earned victory”, said Bottas.
Red Bull had a strong team results today at Turkish GP with double podium finish. For majority of the race Max Verstappen struggled with gear shift issues and the Dutchman is happy to finish second and retake the championship lead from Lewis Hamilton. “It was not easy today! I’m happy to finish second, in these conditions it would have been easy to get it wrong”, said Max Verstappen.
Max’s team mate Sergio Perez drove an exceptional race to clinch P3, he overtook Charles Leclerc in the final laps to give much needed points to Red Bull in their championship battle with Mercedes. “It was just one of those races to be patient. We didn’t really know what was going on with the tyres today. It was pretty hard to manage”, said The Mexican.
Charles Leclerc comes home in impressive P4 for Ferrari ahead of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton in P5. Both drivers were trying to finish the race without pitting, But they were asked to pit for fresh intermediate tyres by their respective team, which cost them two places. Lewis Hamilton was not happy with the team call and he was very vocal on the team radio.
Pierre Gasly once again impresses with P6 finish ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris in P7. Gasly handed five seconds time penalty by race stewards for pushing Fernando Alonso wide in the first lap.
Norris’s ex-team mate and Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz comes home in P8 after starting from back row of the grid. Fans impressed with Spaniard’s performance as they voted him as Driver of the day winner.
Lance Stroll in P9 and Esteban Ocon in P10 completes the points scoring positions ahead of Alfa Romeo duo Giovinazzi in P11 and Kimi Raikkonen in P12.
Daniel Ricciardo finishes in P13 ahead of Yuki Tsunoda in P14 and George Russell in P15. Fernando Alonso lost more places today after two incidents with Gasly and Mick Schumacher, He comes home in P16 after starting from P5 on the grid.
The Spaniard is one of two drivers to serve five seconds time penalty on Sunday. Latifi in P17, Sebastian Vettel in P18 comes home ahead of Haas duo Mick Schumacher in P19 and Mazepin in P20.
