Formula 1 returns to to Imola after a 14 year absence. It will be the first planned Grand Prix in the modern era to be held over just two days of track activity. There won’t be Friday Practice sessions, instead 90 mins practice will be held before Saturday’s Qualifying.
Sebastian is one of the drivers for whom this Santerno track is completely new. During his track walk, he stopped for a moment to pay his respects to Ayrton Senna, who died here in 1994.
During his Thursday’s media session, the Four-time World Champion touched up on various topics, from leaving Ferrari at the end of season to his struggles to get maximum out of SF1000 compared to Charles. Sebastian is also keen to get in the car as early as possible.
Sebastian About Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, Imola
”I think it’s a great circuit to drive. I’ve never been here, so it’s a novelty. It looks great, it looks fun. I know that in some ways, this is a bit of an old-style circuit, but I’ve always liked that and I can’t wait to tackle its corners. From when I was last here in 2006, as a test driver, I don’t remember much. It will be a real first go.”
Seb about bigger gap to Charles Leclerc this year
“Just like any time throughout my career, I’m [trying] to do everything I can to go as fast as I can. But currently, obviously, I’m not able to get the same out of the car as Charles is. So obviously, I’m looking forward, with the engineers, to try and understand and work on it, and continue to work on it.”
Seb on the idea of SF1000 didn’t suit his driving style
“So far in my racing life, I’ve always been able to extract the maximum. This year seems a bit different but there’s no other choice than working on myself and working on the car.
“I don’t think it’s down to the way the car is handling, I think you always have to adapt,” he added. “I think that’s true in go karts all the way to Formula 1, and it’s something that normally has never been a problem. But clearly, as I said, I’m missing something this year and I’m trying everything I can to get on top of it.”
Seb about leaving Ferrari
“It’s like a love story, I’ve been a Ferrari fan since I was a kid. I will miss every person on the team – yes, I will still see many of them in the paddock, but a little less often and certainly in a different way than before”.
Finally Sebastian Vettel says, he doesn’t like cats, when a Imola cat greets him during media session.
