Dodgers started the game with 2 run lead in bottom of first innings and they built early lead of 5-1 over Padres. But Padres and Many slowly crawled back to tie the game and took lead.
Trent Grisham lined a two-run single off Brusdar Graterol in the seventh inning, giving the Padres a commanding 9-5 lead over the Dodgers. The crowd of 45,366 in attendance at Dodger Stadium grew restless and let their displeasures be heard.
The Dodgers had committed two errors, Max Scherzer looked mortal for a second consecutive start, and Los Angeles’ hopes of winning a ninth consecutive National League West title were disappearing right in front of its eyes.
But then the improbable happened. The Dodgers hit four homers in the eighth inning, including Corey Seager’s two-out, two-run homer to get past the Padres, 11-9, on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium. The last time the Dodgers hit four homers in an inning was September 5, 2016, against the D-backs.
With the win, the Dodgers stayed two games behind the Giants, who beat the D-backs on Wednesday, in the NL West race with four games remaining in the regular season. The Giants’ magic number to win the division is down to three.
